Does it matter if I use a Windows PC or an Apple MAC? {NO!} Our software and general computer use tutorials and articles are developed for Adobe® Photoshop Elements and Adobe® Photoshop on a PC using Windows as an operating system (O/S).
Other than the differences in the user interface, the basic differences in the 2 platforms are the command keys:
Either operating system (O/S) will work for digital scrapbooking. However, you will want to have LOTS OF MEMORY and LOTS OF STORAGE!
Computer Memory:
Many of the popular digital scrapbook software programs use lots of computer memory (RAM). If you currently have an old computer now is a good time to consider upgrading to that new laptop you've had your eye on ;)
Most computers usually have room for more memory to be installed on them. If your computer isn't all that old you may simply want to add more memory (RAM) to it. A quick Internet search will give you all the information you need to “soup up your computer” for digi-scrapping.
Storage Capacity:
In addition to storing all your photos (sometimes referred to as digital negatives) you will also be saving your layout files. As you start to create and save digital scrapbook pages, you quickly realize that you need lots of storage capacity.
I highly recommend using an external hard drive (EHD) to store your files. The prices have become reasonable for EHDs with 300 to 500 GB. Even the TB drives aren't outrageous anymore! And, believe me, you want all the storage capacity you can get! HEY — don't forget about storing all your digital scrapbook supplies too.
You'll want the capability to “back up” you files. YES... you saved them on the EHD but hard drives have been known to CRASH. And always at the worst time! You can use CDs to save your files on but DVDs are better because they have more storage capacity. If your computer doesn't already have a writable DVD drive then you might think about purchasing an external DVD drive.
