The answer is.... depends! {Don’t you just hate that kind of answer!}
It depends on what you plan to do with your “digital” layouts. Today's technology offers us so many options. Do you want to use them as a slide show on your computer desktop? Do you want to display them in online galleries? Do you want to email them to family and friends? Do you want to post them to your blog? If so, then maybe you don't need a fancy printer.
Of course, you should still take precautions when storing your printed photos. Storing them in a dark place — like an album — is better than having them constantly exposed to light. However, if you do have a photo or layout fade — no problem — just print another one.
I can hear you now. If I do decide to print my layouts will I need to have 12”x12” printer? {NO!}
The standard layout size — 12x12 — can easily be resized to print on 8½x11 photo paper which fits most home printers. A benefit of printing your layouts in a smaller size is the great variety of finishes available 8½x11 photo paper. Check out your local office supply store next time you're out shopping.
In my opinion, one of the disadvantages is that it's difficult to find a good place to store the large 12x12 albums. The smaller 8x8 albums fit nicely on the shelves. Besides the smaller albums cost less than the larger ones.
{And, yes, you can still read your journaling after you resize your layout!}
What's that you say? You DO want to print out the 12x12 layouts but don't want to invest in the printer? Get ye to the Internet and a quick search will show you lots of online printers where you can get them done.
